1. Overview
1-1. About DocuWorks
DocuWorks allows you to integrate variety types of application data as one DocuWorks file which can be stacked or unstacked. Also, its Viewer program comes with simple editing functions that you can use to add annotations, drawings, etc. For more information on DocuWorks, see 13. Website.
1-2. Overview of DocuWorks Viewer Light
DocuWorks Viewer Light is a simple version of DocuWorks Viewer. DocuWorks Viewer Light is used for displaying or printing the contents of DocuWorks files. DocuWorks Viewer Light makes it possible to view DocuWorks documents in systems where DocuWorks is not installed.
Its functions include text string searches, copying, jumping with link annotations, and original data extracting. It does not provide any editing functions.
1-3. Overview of DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web
DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web is used for displaying pages contained in DocuWorks file on web browsers. This software allows web browsers to display DocuWorks documents that are embedded in websites.
Its functions include DocuWorks document printing, text string searches, copying, jumping with link annotations, and original data extracting. It does not provide any editing functions. Also, DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web supports byte-serving function and ActiveX® controls.

  • When displaying a DocuWorks document on a frame-based home page and repeatedly clicking on a link to another DocuWorks document, Microsoft® Internet Explorer® terminated unexpectedly. This problem has been corrected. (14098)

  • When searching a DocuWorks file in which new annotations from DocuWorks7 were pasted, the search operation froze. This problem has been corrected. (15126)
  • When successively executing the LoadFile method in an application in which Viewer Light Control was embedded, errors occurred and the application terminated unexpectedly. This problem has been corrected. (15404)

  • When attempting to open a document whose file name length is 255 bytes or more and to display the document property on Netscape® or Mozilla® Firefox®, the browser used to be forced to shut down. This problem has been corrected. (13839)
  • The new functions [Resize document to fit print area] and [Include notepad annotation] have been added in the print dialog box. (13875)
  • Microsoft® Internet Explorer® used to freeze occasionally, when attempting to display 0 KB-size DocuWorks document on Viewer Control or Viewer Light Control. This problem has been corrected. (13883)
  • A DocuWorks file which is displayed by transmitting a form data could not be displayed on the web application. This problem has been corrected. (13990)
  • When attempting to open a document whose file name length is 260 bytes or more and to display the document property on Viewer Light Control, Microsoft® Internet Explorer® used to be forced to shut down. This problem has been corrected. (14028)
3-2-4. Difference between 6.1 and 6.2.1
  • When [Communication Settings] is set to [Download all] in the [DocuWorks Viewer Light Control Options] dialog box, it used to take a while to display a DocuWorks file in Microsoft® Internet Explorer® under certain circumstances. This problem has been corrected. (9290)
  • A DocuWorks file that uses the POST method could not be displayed on the web application Microsoft® Internet Explorer®. This problem has been corrected. (12100)
  • If the color display property is set to use 256 colors, if any images are specified in the [Top Image] tab and/or the [Button Image] tab for header and footer in a DocuWorks document, the document could not be displayed properly on Microsoft® Internet Explorer®. This problem has been corrected. (12160)
  • If any single quotation marks " ' " are used in the name of a DocuWorks file, the file could not be displayed on Microsoft® Internet Explorer®. This problem has been corrected. (12361)

  • For DocuWorks files displayed on Microsoft® Internet Explorer®, the display would not jump to the correct page when clicking on link annotations linking to other DocuWorks files. This problem has been corrected. (8961)

  • When displaying DocuWorks files repeatedly in Microsoft® Internet Explorer® or, the GDI object sometimes leaked. This problem has been corrected. (12391)
  • The selected file would sometimes not appear when a link annotation set to another file was pressed. This problem has been corrected. (12407)
  • When printing using the PrintNoDialog method in Viewer Control or Viewer Light Control, it did not print after the second time. This problem has been corrected. (12415)
  • In Microsoft® Internet Explorer®, DocuWorks files could not be opened on FTP sites that did not use the default port. This problem has been corrected. (12462)
4. Copying and Distributing
You can copy and distribute DocuWorks Viewer Light. However, you must copy this software in whole, including the installer and the release notes (license agreement, copyright and trademark information, notes and restrictions, etc.)
Modification of this installer program from Fuji Xerox or replacement of it by another program is strictly forbidden.
5. DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web Supported Browsers
DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web supports the following browsers:
  • Netscape® 7.x
  • Mozilla® Firefox® 2.0x
  • Microsoft® Internet Explorer® 6.0x
  • Windows® Internet Explorer® 7
Note:
Netscape® 7.x uses the specific plug-in for Netscape® to display DocuWorks files.
Mozilla® Firefox® 2.0x uses the specific plug-in for Mozilla® Firefox® to display DocuWorks files.
Microsoft® Internet Explorer® 6.0x/7 uses ActiveX® Controls to display DocuWorks files.
6. DocuWorks Viewer Light Control Operational Restrictions Caused by Enabling the Protected Mode for Microsoft® Windows Vista® and Disabling Procedure
6-1. Operational Restrictions
The following restrictions apply:
6-2. Disabling the Protected Mode
Temporarily disable the Protected Mode in [Internet Options] of Microsoft® Internet Explorer®, or download the DocuWorks files to open them with Viewer or Viewer Light.
7. Quick Distributor Mode
Quick Distributor Mode is an installation mode that is equivalent to DocuWorks Quick Distributor that has been provided together with DocuWorks up to DocuWorks 6.1. Quick Distributor Mode checks the installation requirements on a computer to install DocuWorks Viewer Light and DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web, and launches the installer. If you save the installers including "dwqd.exe" (a program for Quick Distributor Mode) on the file server, and configure them to launch automatically using a login script, DocuWorks Viewer Light and DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web can be installed automatically when a user logs in.
7-1. How to use Quick Distributor Mode
You can follow the procedure below to use Quick Distributor Mode to configure the automatic installation of DocuWorks Viewer Light and DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web whenever users log in.
  1. Decompress the zipped files in the file server directory to expand all the compressed files.
  2. Specify a full path to "dwqd.exe" (a program for Quick Distributor Mode) in the login script on the file server.
7-2. Installation by Quick Distributor Mode
The following describes how DocuWorks Viewer Light and DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web can be installed using Quick Distributor Mode.
  1. A user logs in to the file server.
  2. A program within Quick Distributor Mode checks to see if DocuWorks Viewer Light and DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web is installed or not on a client computer, and if it is, then also checks its version.
  3. If DocuWorks Viewer Light and/or DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web have not been installed on a client computer, or if earlier versions of DocuWorks Viewer Light and/or DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web have been installed, the installation for this version of DocuWorks Viewer Light and DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web starts. No message appears during the installation.
  4. After the installation, DocuWorks Viewer Light and DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web start up. The [License Agreement] dialog box appears.
  5. Read License Agreement thoroughly. Select [I accept terms in the license agreement], then click [Next].
7-3. How to change the installation destination folder 
You can specify the installation folder directory by changing the "Setup.iss" file when decompressing the zipped file.
Important
If you delete the following item or make changes to any items without any specific instructions, DocuWorks Viewer Light and DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web may not be installed properly.

Specify the directory to install DocuWorks Viewer Light and DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web.
Specify a full path using "\" as a delimiter.
When specifying the installation directory, the following variables can be used.

8. Installation
8-1. Installation Requirements
The following operating systems are required to install DocuWorks Viewer Light and DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web.

When installing DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web, Microsoft® Internet Explorer® 6 or Windows® Internet Explorer® 7 is required.
8-2. Installation Notes
8-3. Installation Procedure
Install DocuWorks Viewer Light as follows:
  1. Double-click on setup.exe for DocuWorks Viewer Light.
    The DocuWorks Viewer Light installer starts.
  2. Verify the displayed contents, and then click [Next].
    The [License Agreement] dialog box appears.
  3. Verify the information displayed in the DocuWorks licensing agreement.
    If you agree to the licensing conditions, Click [I accept terms in the license agreement], and then click [Next].
    The [System Information] dialog box appears. If DocuWorks, DocuWorks Viewer Light, or DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web is already installed, its version and install directory are indicated.
  4. Verify the contents, and then click [Next].
    The [Choose Destination Location] dialog box appears.
  5. Verify the installation directory in [Destination Location]. If you want to change the directory, click [Browse].
    Click [Next].
    The [Select Features] dialog box appears.
  6. Verify the application to be installed.
    Click [Next].
    The [Start Copying Files] dialog box appears.
  7. Verify the settings, and click [Next].
    The installation starts.
    Once the installation is complete, the [Setup completed] dialog box appears.
9. Uninstallation
By uninstalling DocuWorks Viewer Light, all related files that were created during installation are deleted from your PC's hard disk.
9-1. Uninstallation Notes
  • All files created by the user in the install directory will not be deleted.
  • For Microsoft® Windows® 2000, Windows® XP, Windows Vista® a user must have the privileges that are equivalent to administrators for uninstalling.
9-2. Uninstallation Procedure
Uninstall DocuWorks Viewer Light as follows:
  1. From the Microsoft® Windows® [Start] menu, select [Control Panel].
  2. Double-click [Add or Remove Programs].
  3. In the [Add or Remove Programs] dialog box, select [Fuji Xerox DocuWorks Viewer Light 6.2.5] and then click [Change/Remove].
  4. When the [Confirm Uninstall] dialog box appears, click [OK] to begin the uninstallation.
    Uninstallation begins.
    When the uninstallation is completed, the [Uninstall completed] dialog box will appear.
  5. Click [Finish].
    If there are files that could not be deleted during the uninstallation, the dialog box will show you a message.
10. Starting and Exiting
10-1. Starting and Exiting DocuWorks Viewer Light
For details on menu commands and dialog boxes of DocuWorks Viewer Light, refer to Help. To display Help, select [DocuWorks Viewer Light Help] from the [Help] menu of DocuWorks Viewer Light.
10-1-1. Starting
From the Microsoft® Windows® [Start] menu, select [All Programs] > [Fuji Xerox] > [DocuWorks] > [DocuWorks Viewer Light].
The DocuWorks Viewer Light window appears and you are ready to use the software.
Or, you can simply double-click a DocuWorks file and DocuWorks Viewer Light will start automatically.
10-1-2. Exiting
From the [File] menu of DocuWorks Viewer Light, select [Exit].

10-2-1. Starting
DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web starts if a DocuWorks file is displayed in the browser window. The following methods can be used to display a DocuWorks file in the browser window:
  1. Select the DocuWorks file that is specified by the anchor tag <a> in the HTML file.
  2. Enter the URL of the DocuWorks file in the address field in the browser.
  3. Open the DocuWorks file by specifying it using the [File] menu of the browser.
  4. Drag-and-drop the DocuWorks file into the browser window.
If you display the HTML file in which a DocuWorks file is embedded, the DocuWorks file is displayed embedded in the HTML file. Refer to "11-21. Displaying DocuWorks file Embedded in HTML" for specifying the URL or HTML.
10-2-2. Exiting
DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web exits when you close the browser or display another HTML file.
11. Running DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web
11-1. About the Window
The DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web window in the browser comes with its own display window, Standard Toolbar, DocuWorks Binder Index toolbar, and status bar.
You can show of hide the bars individually.
11-1-1. View Types
The DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web window displays the page of a DocuWorks file. There are two view types; full screen view and embedded view.
Full screen view displays a page in full screen within the browser window.
Embedded view displays a DocuWorks file which is embedded in a HTML document. It displays a page as a part of a HTML page, like an image file embedded in HTML. If the DocuWorks file is embedded in HTML, then the toolbar and status bar will not appear.
11-1-2. Toolbars
The Standard Toolbar contains the following buttons: [Save a Copy], [Print], [Find], [Find Previous], [Find Next], [Copy Image], [Scrolling Mode], [Text Selecting Mode], [First Page], [Previous Page], [Next Page], [Last Page], [Go To], [Zoom Out], [Page Width], [Zoom In], [Toggle Annotations], and [Extract Original Data].
The DocuWorks Binder Index toolbar shows the names of documents in the binder in a list view when you are displaying a binder. When you select a document name, the first page of the document appears.
These toolbars appear only when the window is displaying a page in full screen view.
If you move the position of the toolbar and exit the window, the toolbar appears at that position at the next startup.
11-1-3. Pop-up Menu
The display window displays contents of a file. Right-clicking the mouse shows the pop-up menu.
In Netscape® 7.x, and Mozilla® Firefox®, a pop-up menu is available containing the following items.

11-1-4. Status Bar
The status bar shows the page number, total pages, zoom ratio, and document security status.
When displaying a DocuWorks Binder, the word "DocuWorks Binder document" appears. When displaying a protected document, a padlock mark appears. Also the explanation of the selected toolbar button or the pop-up menu appears.
11-2. DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web Options
Select [DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web Options] (for Netscape® Netscape® 7.x and Mozilla® Firefox®) / [DocuWorks Viewer Light Control Options] (for Microsoft® Internet Explorer®) from the pop-up menu to display the dialog box specify options for communications, temporary files, default zoom ratio, and image copy.

For more information on the [Zoom] tab, see "11-5. Changing Zoom Ratio".
For more information on the [Copy Image] tab, see "11-14. Copying Image".
11-3. Turning Pages
Document pages can be turned in the following ways.
  • Click the button in the toolbar; [Previous Page]. [Next Page], [First Page], [Last Page], or [Go To].
  • Select a command from the pop-up menu, or press the corresponding shortcut key.
  • Move the wheel of a wheel mouse forward or backward while holding the <Shift > key.
To turn the page with scrolling, press the <PageUp> key or <PageDown> key while holding the <Shift> key. (Upon turning to the next page, the top part of the page appears. Upon turning to the previous page, the bottom part of that page appears.)
You can use the [Page] button in the toolbar or [Go To Page] command from the pop-up menu to specify a page to jump to.
When displaying a binder, you can jump to the first page of the documents using the DocuWorks Binder Index toolbar.
If you select [DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web Options] (in Netscape® 7.x and Mozilla® Firefox® 2.0x) or [DocuWorks Viewer Control Options] (in Microsoft® Internet Explorer®) and check [View the document by piling to show the thickness], you can turn the pages using notepads that are protruding from the pages.
11-4. Scrolling
When you select [Scrolling Mode] from the toolbar or the pop-up menu, the mouse pointer changes to a hand shape. By dragging the mouse with holding down the left button of the mouse, the page scrolls up, down, left or right in the window.
Also you can scroll the page by moving the wheel of a mouse forward or backward.
When you press the <F4> key, the cursor mode switches between [Scrolling Mode] and [Text Selecting Mode].
11-5. Changing Zoom Ratio
Zoom ratio can be changed in the following ways.
  • Click the button in the toolbar; [Zoom Out], [Page Width], or [Zoom In].
  • Select a command from the pop-up menu, or press the corresponding shortcut key.
  • Move the wheel of a wheel mouse forward or backward while holding the <Ctrl> key. The zoom ratio shifts in steps of 10%.
Nine zoom ratios are available for the [Zoom In], [Zoom Out], and the pop-up zoom commands: 17%, 33%, 67%, 100%, 133%, 167%, 200%, 300%, and 400%.
[Fit to Page Width] in the toolbar or the pop-up menu fits the width of the page to the current window size, minus a 1 cm margin on both right and left sides.
[Fit to Page Height] in the pop-up menu fits the height of the page to the current window size, minus a 1 cm margin on the top and bottom sides.
[Fit to Whole Page] in the pop-up menu scales both the width and height of the page to fit into the current window.
DocuWorks files embedded in HTML documents will be displayed by the zoom ratio specified in the HTML. The zoom ratio available is between 10 and 1600%. To display the file in full screen in the browser window, select [Full Screen] from the pop-up menu.
You can specify the initial zoom ratio when a document is displayed in the [DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web Options] dialog box (for Netscape® 7.x and Mozilla® Firefox® 2.0x) / [DocuWorks Viewer Light Control Options] dialog box (for Microsoft® Internet Explorer®). The setting will be effective from the next time you open DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web.
11-6. Rotating Displayed Page
You can rotate the current page by selecting either of [Right], [Left] or [180 Degrees] from the [Rotate] Menu (in Netscape® 7.x and Mozilla® Firefox® 2.0x) or from the [Rotate] submenu under the [Edit] menu (in Microsoft® Internet Explorer®).The rotate setting is not saved when you close the document.
Also, you cannot rotate pages with annotations attached.
You cannot rotate pages if document editing is prohibited for a protected document. You cannot rotate pages with signatures attached.
11-7. Toggling Annotation Display On or Off
By selecting [Toggle Annotations] from the toolbar or [Show Annotations] from the pop-up menu, the display of annotations attached to the document will be turned on or off. When the display is turned off, annotations cannot be printed.
For more information about annotations, see "11-8. Jumping to Link Targets".
You cannot change the annotation display if annotation editing is prohibited for a protected document. Annotation display cannot be changed on signed documents.
11-8. Jumping to Link Targets
From a link annotation attached to the DocuWorks file, you can jump to the linked page using the mouse button, pop-up menu or key operations. When you move the mouse cursor over the link annotation, the shape of the cursor changes. Click the mouse button to jump to the link target.
Link Target Action
Web page A browser opens with a web page displayed.
DocuWorks file The specified page opens. If the page cannot be displayed, a message appears and the first page of the file is displayed.
Other files The specified file opens in the related application.
E-mail address An e-mail software opens.
If the link target is [Web page] or [Other files], a pop-up menu appears by right-clicking the mouse. You can select whether to display the link target in the same window or a new window.
11-9. Displaying Properties
There are two types of properties, [Page Properties] and [Document Properties]. You can select them from the pop-up menu.
In the [Page Properties] dialog box, the following items are indicated: paper size, type of the original data, resolution, color mode, compression/quality, color palette, and whether OCR result text is attached. (Color mode is displayed only when [Original] is [Application Document]. Also, [Compression/Quality], [Color palette] and [OCR result] is displayed only when [Original] is [Image Document].
In the [Document Properties] dialog box, the following items are indicated: file name, file type, location, file size, last modified date and number of pages. If you are displaying a binder, number of internal documents, binder color, and binder size are also indicated.
If you are displaying a file with securities set, prohibited operations and additional information are also indicated.
11-10. Printing
You can use either the toolbar button or the pop-up menu to print out the document in display.
You cannot print a document if printing is prohibited for a protected document.
If the printer is ESC/Page printer and cannot print the transparent annotation area correctly, check [Force to Print Slash Pattern for Transparent Color] in the [Print] dialog box.
To print a document containing different page sizes to fit into the actual paper size for printing, check [Fit to Paper Size]. The pages will be enlarged or reduced to fit into the printing paper.
To reduce the size of the document to that of the printable area, check [Resize document to fit print area]. In addition, if [Include notepad annotation] is checked, the whole area including the notepad can be reduced to the printable area.
To select the paper which can print the page in 1x automatically, check [Choose output destination by DocuWorks paper size].
11-11. Saving
You can save the displayed DocuWorks file as another file by using the toolbar button or the pop-up menu.
However, the result of rotation cannot be saved in the document.
11-12. Character String Search
You can search a character string within a DocuWorks file that is displayed in a window.
11-12-1. Search Operation
  1. Select [Find] from the toolbar button or the pop-up menu.
    The [Find] dialog box appears.
  2. Enter a search character string and search options. Then click [Find Next].
    Character string search begins and the character string that is found is highlighted.
  3. To continue the search, select [Find Next] (or the <F3> key on the keyboard) or [Find Previous] (or the <Shift>+<F3> keys) from the Standard toolbar or the pop-up menu.
Note:
  • You cannot search for any character string that extends to the next page.
  • You cannot search for any header or footer that is inserted by using the Setup Header/Footer function.
  • If you conduct a search while annotations are hidden, a message "Matched text annotation is found but its selection cannot be displayed because in the Hide mode." appears. If the target text is found in the hidden annotation, the page on which that particular annotation is pasted is displayed instead of the annotation itself.
  • In Netscape® 7.x, Mozilla® Firefox® 2.0x, the <F3> key or the <Shift>+<F3> keys do not allow you to continue the search.
11-12-2. [Find] dialog box
Specify the following search options:
[Text]
Specify a character string to search for. You can enter up to 255 characters. Character string cannot include a line feed or a tab. A space can be searched for as a character string.
You can specify multiple character strings such as "A or B" by delimiting them with a space.
To search for a text string containing spaces, place double quotation marks (") before and after the text string.
To search for a text string containing a double quotation mark ("), back slash (\), or a space, insert a back slash (\) immediately before the character.
[Target]
Specify whether to include in the search target the texts in the pages created by applications, the OCR performed texts of images pages, and the text annotations. Check a desired option(s) to include in the search target. All options are checked by default.
[Ignore case]
Specify whether to distinguish or ignore the upper and lower cases. To ignore the cases, check the option. This option is unchecked by default.
11-13. Selecting and Copying Texts
By selecting [Text Selecting Mode] from the toolbar button or the pop-up menu, the cursor changes to the shape of "+A". You can drag the cursor over the texts and select them.
Text of an application page can be selected in units of character and text of an image page OCR result can be selected in units of line or page.
If you select a text and then select [Copy Selected Text] from the pop-up menu, the selected text will be copied to the clipboard and you can paste them to another application files.
Pressing the <F4> key toggles between the scrolling mode and text selecting mode.
  • You cannot select a text that spans multiple pages.
  • If you select [Select All] from the pop-up menu, all of the texts that can be selected from the displayed page are selected.
  • If you select a text and select [Start up Web Browser] from the pop-up menu, the web browser starts up with the selected text string as the URL.
    If you select text annotation or select nothing and then select [Start up Web Browser] from the pop-up menu, the web browser starts up with the address left blank. However, if you are using Netscape®, you cannot select [Start up Web Browser].
  • You cannot copy text if copying is prohibited for a protected document.
11-14. Copying Image
By selecting [Copy Image] from the toolbar button or the pop-up menu, the shape of the cursor changes. If you left-click a part of a page and drag the mouse, a square appears enabling you to specify the range of image to be copied. By releasing the left button of the mouse, the specified range will be copied as a bitmap data to the clipboard, and you can paste it to other application files.
You can specify the resolution and the color mode of copy image in the dialog box which is displayed by selecting [DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web Setting] (for Netscape® 7.x and Mozilla® Firefox® 2.0x) / [DocuWorks Viewer Light Control Setting] (for Microsoft® Internet Explorer®) from the pop-up menu.
Specify a resolution between 75 and 600 dpi.
You cannot copy an image if copying is prohibited for a protected document.
11-15. Display OCR Result
You can display the result of OCR performed in DocuWorks Desk or DocuWorks Viewer by selecting [Display OCR Result] from the pop-up menu. [Display OCR Result] dialog box will be displayed, and you can select and copy the texts. If the displayed page does not contain the OCR result, this menu cannot be selected.
You cannot copy OCR results if copying is prohibited for a protected document.
11-16. Extracting Original Data
You can extract original data attached to the displayed DocuWorks file by selecting [Extract Original Data] from the toolbar button or the pop-up menu.
  1. Select [Extract Original Data] from the toolbar button or the pop-up menu.
    The [Extract Original Data] dialog box appears.
  2. Select the file to extract, and then click [Extract].
    The [Extract Original Data] dialog box appears.
    If the byte-serving function is activated and the original data is not downloaded, download begins. When it is complete, [Extract Original Data] dialog box appears.
  3. Specify the location and file name, and then click [Save].
    The original data file is extracted.
You cannot extract original data if copying is prohibited for a protected document.
11-17. Security
To display a protected DocuWorks file in DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web you are requested to enter Open Password.
DocuWorks files protected by DocuWorks Electronic Signature or Digital Certificate cannot be displayed in DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web.
However, if DocuWorks 6 is installed and if the Electronic Signature specified as being capable of opening the protected document is registered in the [My Signature] tab of your Electronic Signature Case, you can open the document.
To open document protected by a Digital Certificate, the certificate used to configure the security must be registered in the [Personal] tab of the Certificate Manager of Microsoft® Internet Explorer®.
For protected documents, "print", "extract original data", "show/hide annotations", "rotate", "copy selected text", "copy OCR result", and "copy Image" commands are prohibited. Menu commands and tool buttons which relate to the prohibited operations cannot be selected.

11-18. Manipulating Signed Documents
11-19. About Byte-serving Function
When a DocuWorks file on the website contains many pages, it may take a long time to download and display the entire file. Use of the byte-serving function will reduce the display time by downloading only pages required for display if the file size is larger than specified.
11-19-1. Operations Affected by Byte-serving
When the byte-serving function is activated, partial download is performed to display a DocuWorks file, to navigate pages, to display link destinations, to print the file, and to save the file.
11-19-2. Requirements for Byte-serving
  • The Web sever must support the byte-serving function and the function must be activated on the server. The following servers are compatible:
    Apache 1.3.x
    Microsoft® Internet Information Server 3.x
    Microsoft® Internet Information Server 4.x
    Microsoft® Internet Information Service 5.0.x
    Microsoft® Internet Information Service 6.0.x

  • The browser must support the byte-serving function.

  • To display a DocuWorks file on the system that runs on a Web server and uses CGI, the system must support the byte-serving function and operate to return the URL of the DocuWorks file.
11-19-3. DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web Settings for Byte-serving
Select [DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web Setting] (for Netscape® 7.x and Mozilla® Firefox® 2.0x) or [DocuWorks Viewer Light Control Setting] (for Microsoft® Internet Explorer®) from the pop-up menu to display the dialog box for setup. The specified settings will be active the next time you display a DocuWorks file using DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web.
Communications setting
Specify a download method. The default method is [Partial download].
Download all data
The entire DocuWorks file is downloaded for display.
Partial download
Only pages required for display will be downloaded by means of the byte-serving function if the size of a DocuWorks file to display is larger than specified. When navigating pages that are not yet downloaded, only necessary pages will be downloaded. The available size range is 1 through 99999 KB. The default size is 100 KB.
Temporary file related setting
Specify this option when [Partial download] is selected. Partial download of a DocuWorks file with the byte-serving function saves a copy of the downloaded page. This copy is called a temporary file. When viewing the same page, the saved temporary file will be displayed to reduce the display time unless the real file on the website is updated. The temporary files of this type are not those used by the browser's cache function. When [Download all data] is selected, however, no temporary files of this type are created and the browser's cache function is activated.
Maximum size
Specify the maximum total size of the temporary files. When this maximum size is exceeded, the temporary files are deleted starting with the one with the oldest creation date. The available size range is 1 through 99 MB. The default size is 50 MB.
Location of temporary files
Specify the location of the temporary files. The default location is "Installed directory\Cache". For Microsoft® Windows® 2000, Windows® XP, and Windows Vista®, the default directory is "Directory specified by the environment variable\Cache".
Delete temporary file
All the temporary files are deleted. The file on display will be deleted when DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web is closed.
11-20. About Support for ActiveX® Controls
DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web supports ActiveX® controls. You can view and print DocuWorks files with ActiveX® controls containers.
The control name of DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web is [DocuWorks Viewer Light Control].

  • SRC must be specified.
  • You can specify multiple attributes by entering a space to between them.
  • The zoom rate of the display (or the print result) of the DocuWorks file is automatically decided by the specified width and height. It is displayed (or printed) by the specified width or height fitting to center of the window (or paper).
  • The zoom rate available is between 10% and 1600%. If you specify a rate beyond this limit, an X mark is displayed (or printed) in the window (or paper) and the DocuWorks file is not displayed (or printed).
  • If you specify a zoom rate near 10% and even if the DocuWorks file is displayed, only an X mark may be printed on the paper if the rate for printing falls below 10%. The same thing happens for specifying a zoom rate near 1600%.
  • For PAGE, if you specify a page number which does not exist, the last page of the DocuWorks file is displayed.
  • You can specify a page of the internal document by using SHEAF. If the specified internal document does not exist, the action will be the same as specifying sheaf="internal document name" in the URL.
  • According to the specified width and height, the zoom ratio calculated may have slight error. In that case, the DocuWorks file may not fit to the width or height of the window.
  • Tags other than the above one will not affect display of DocuWorks files.
For example, the following tag embeds the SAMPLE.XDW file into HTML.

If WIDTH is between 65 and 2488 pixels, and HEIGHT is between 90 and 3518 pixels, then embedded file (A4, Portrait) will be displayed correctly. If the % parameter can be used to specify WIDTH and HEIGHT, then the document size will be adjusted to the size of the window when displayed, or size of the paper when printed.

12. Notes and Restrictions
The following explains notes and restrictions for operating DocuWorks Viewer Light and DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web. The system errors in this documentation refer to any application errors and faults that cause the windows to close and Microsoft® Windows® to forcibly shut down.
12-1. Operation
12-1-1. DocuWorks Viewer Light
  • Depending on the application, the printing may be processed in different order from the displayed text order. Because the text information within the DocuWorks document converted from those applications is held in a different order from the displayed text order, the search result may not be in the displayed order. (5572)
  • Depending on the settings of applications or fonts, characters may be printed as images. If this happens, the converted DocuWorks documents hold no text information and so cannot be searched using text search. (6537)
12-1-2. DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web
  • In Netscape® 7.x, when the embedded page in display is being printed, using the Return or Reload command from the shortcut menu in the browser window will cause the browser to shut down. Wait until the [Print] dialog box is closed. (2284)
  • When displaying a DocuWorks file on a browser, on which a link annotation has been pasted in DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web, if a local path or UNC path is used to specify the link file location under [File] in the [DocuWorks File Settings] dialog box, you may not be able to display the file properly, or may not be able to specify the page number or the document within a binder, depending on the browser in use.   • Depending on the application, the printing may be processed in the different order from the displayed text order. Because the text information within the DocuWorks document converted from those applications is held in a different order from the displayed text order, the search result may not be in the displayed order. (5572)
  • While downloading data with Netscape® 7.x, if you click [Cancel] on the dialog box that shows the download progress, the status bar and the [Stop] button on Navigator, Netscape® 7.x will not be updated. (5640)
  • If you access a Web server with Netscape® 7.x and try to view a DocuWorks file on the server, you may see the message "The specified file is not a DocuWorks document." and fail to view the DocuWorks file. In this case, select [Download all data] on the [DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web Setting] dialog box. (5734)
  • If the browser software on Microsoft® Windows® 2000 or Windows® XP does not use a proxy server, the following troubles may occur:
    • You may see an error message and fail to display a DocuWorks file embedded in an HTML document on the full browser screen.
    • You may not view the DocuWorks file that you specified with its URL. (5741)
  • Depending on the settings of applications or fonts, characters may be printed as images. If this happens, the converted DocuWorks documents hold no text information and so cannot be searched using text search. (6537)
  • The byte-serving feature may not function when displaying DocuWorks files from a client on the Web server in DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web. This is because DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web adds the current time to the header information to communicate with the Web server. You can avoid this problem by setting the time of the Web server side later than that of the client side. (7233)
  • You cannot cancel the capture image operation in progress under Netscape® 7.x. (7564)
  • If a transparent annotation is layered over signatures, you cannot verify the signatures or other manipulations on the layered portion. (11172)
  • If you open a DocuWorks document in Netscape® 7.1 and jump to the Web page specified as a link annotation and it has 2-byte characters as the URL, Netscape® 7.1 may abort. (11429)
  • When attempting to display a DocuWorks file on Netscape® and Mozilla® Firefox®, if [Communication Settings] is set to [Download all] under the [Communication] tab of the [DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web Setting] dialog box in the DocuWorks file, pressing the stop button of the browser menu while reading the DocuWorks file to be displayed may not actually stop the data transmission.   • You may not open a large file on Mozilla® Firefox®, when [Communication Settings] is set to [Download all] on the [Communication] tab of the [DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web Setting] dialog box. (12929)
  • When displaying a DocuWorks document on Mozilla® Firefox®, the tool tips of the standard tool bar are not displayed. (13096)
  • When using link annotations to jump to another website in Netscape® or in Mozilla® Firefox®, if the URL contains any double-byte characters, the linked page may not be displayed. (13465)
  • In Microsoft® Windows Vista® running in Protected Mode, help contents are not displayed by clicking the [Help] button. In this case, use the [Start] menu of Windows® to view the help contents. (13549)
  • If DocuWorks 6.x or above is not installed, a DocuWorks digital signature cannot be verified on Microsoft® Internet Explorer®. (13553)
  • When displaying a DocuWorks file on Mozilla® Firefox®, if you repeatedly use the zoom tool or the page-turning tool on the DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web toolbar, Mozilla® Firefox® may not function as it supposed to. In this case, click on other application window, and retry using Mozilla® Firefox®. (13558)
12-2. Viewing and Printing
12-2-1. DocuWorks Viewer Light
  • In some applications, it may be difficult to see the color difference in printout than that in the data being viewed on the screen. If you convert this type of data to a DocuWorks file, the color in the file may appear different than the original data. (46)
  • When you convert some application data to a DocuWorks file, patterns in the data may appear to be "filled" when viewed on the screen. However, this problem will not happen when you print the file. (51)
  • Patterns in the DocuWorks files created from some applications may not be displayed correctly. However, this problem will not happen when you print the file. (65)
  • If an application file contains hatch patterns, when you convert it to DocuWorks file, it may appear different from the original data when viewed in its application. However, this problem will not happen when you print the DocuWorks file. (174)
  • If the screen display is set to less than 256 colors, then color in a DocuWorks file will appear dithered pattern. However, this problem will not happen when you print the file. (174)
  • If a DocuWorks file is created from application data containing bitmaps and color patterns, it may take a while to display the file in DocuWorks Viewer Light. Also if a text annotation exceeds a certain size, its text may be displayed as slash lines. (670)
  • If you are converting files that were created by Adobe® PageMaker® 6.0 of Adobe Systems Corporation and that contain characters having emphasis marks, to DocuWorks files, those marks may be corrupted and displayed as A or B on DocuWorks Viewer. This is because Adobe® PageMaker® outputs emphasis marks (dots) using a special font and sets it as being available when starting up the application. This problem occurs when Adobe® PageMaker® is not installed on your computer or it has never been started before the file containing those marks is displayed. (680)
  • When you print a DocuWorks file containing ("&") mark in its file name, the "&" mark will not be shown as a file name in the dialog box which appears during printing. Also, an underline will be shown to the next of the "&" mark. (904)
  • When you create a DocuWorks file from the Acrobat® data, characters of some alphabetical and symbolic fonts may be changed to strange symbols. (1270)
  • If the size of text annotations exceeds the given size, text parts are displayed in shaded patterns. (1529)
  • When you print a DocuWorks file containing graphics filled with shades or patterns to a GDI, ESC/Page, or PostScript® printer, the print result may differ from the case where the data is printed directly from its application software. (1861, 2247)
  • When a DocuWorks file created from Freelance is printed to HP Laser Jet 4V, the underscore and strikethrough lines may not be printed and may become white. (1904)
  • When you print a DocuWorks file created from application data with long width to a PostScript® printer, the portion filled with patterns (such as vertical, horizontal, or slanted line hatch patterns) may appear rotated by 90 degrees. (1908)
  • The first character appearing in a line may be printed in the middle of the line or at the end of the line when printing DocuWorks files using a PCL5 printer (manufactured by Hewlett-Packard Co.). (2019)
  • When a DocuWorks file created from Lotus® 1-2-3 is printed to HP Laser Jet 4V, part of the background pattern of graphs may be missing. (2039)
  • When a DocuWorks file containing 1-point FreeHand annotations is printed to HP LaserJet 4V, some of the annotations may be printed as dotted lines. (2078)
  • When you print selecting [Force to Print Slash Pattern for Transparent Color] in the [Print] dialog box, while transparent color will be replaced with slash pattern, the slash lines may interfere with the pattern in color and result in dirty spots. (2149)
  • Depending on the display card used, the right edge of the body text may not be displayed in specific zoom ratio. If this happens, change the performance settings of the display card. (6992)
  • When you display or print a DocuWorks document created by Microsoft® PowerPoint® or the like under Microsoft® Windows® 98 Second Edition, Microsoft® Windows® Millennium Edition(Windows® Me), textures and shading may be displayed or printed in different pattern from that in the original document.   • In Microsoft® Windows® 2000, Windows® XP, or Windows Vista®, when printing a DocuWorks document created from a Lotus SuperOffice® file, white lines may appear in the gradation. (7601)
  • In Microsoft® Windows® 2000, Windows® XP, or Windows Vista®, when displaying a DocuWorks document created from a Quark Xpress® file that has any rotated images or pasted images, white lines may appear on these images. (7618)
  • In Microsoft® Windows® 2000, Windows® XP, or Windows Vista®, when displaying and/or printing a DocuWorks document created from a Quark Xpress® file that has any rotated images or pasted images, small black dots may appear on these images. (7622)
  • Images and graphics that are contained in Microsoft® Office documents and set to be transparent may be displayed as filled or outlined when being converted to DocuWorks documents. If this occurs, decrease the resolution when converting to DocuWorks documents. (11122)
  • Depending on the drawing method for printing application data, images or symbols may be partially outlined or extra lines may be inserted when displaying the file after it is converted from a DocuWorks document. (11125, 14044)
  • If the gradation or transparent images are displayed with [Smooth the edges of characters converted to bitmap format or graphics data] enabled, lines that are not contained in the image data may be displayed or images may be discolored. (11139)
  • In Microsoft® Windows® 2000, Windows® XP, or Windows Vista®, it may take a while for DocuWorks Viewer Light to display DocuWorks documents created from Microsoft® PowerPoint® documents that contain dotted lines or circles. In this case, select [DocuWorks Viewer Light Options] from the [File] menu of DocuWorks Viewer Light. In the [View] tab of the [DocuWorks Viewer Light Options] dialog box, uncheck the box next to [Smooth the edges of characters converted to the bitmap format or graphics data]. (12001)

    • A text string that spans multiple pages.
    • Headers and footers specified in Viewer.
    • Image documents that are not OCR-processed.
    • Application pages which text cannot be recognized as selectable text.

    • When the search target text is broken up by line feed.
    • Documents which are not properly OCR-processed.
    • Documents which are printed with text in different order compare to what is displayed on the screen.
12-2-2. DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web
  • When the display is switched from embedded view to full screen view, the first page will be displayed at 100% zoom ratio, and annotation display will always be turned on. (2216)
  • In the following cases, a DocuWorks file embedded in HTML may be displayed or printed as "X" at the location where it is embedded:
    • when WIDTH and HEIGHT are set so that the zoom ratio of the file is less than 10% or more than 400%.
    • when drawing resource of Microsoft® Windows® 98 Second Edition, Microsoft® Windows® Millennium Edition(Windows® Me) is low.
    • If this happens, reduce the values of WIDTH and HEIGHT. (2321)
  • If any lines other than solid lines are used in a DocuWorks document (such as dotted lines and broken lines) created in Microsoft® Windows® 2000, Windows® XP, or Windows Vista®, when displaying and/or printing the document in Microsoft® Windows® 98 Second Edition, or Windows® Millennium Edition (Windows® Me), the lines may turn to solid lines or the space between the dots or broken lines may change.   • If you specify the URL of a DocuWorks file starting with "ftp://" on Netscape® 7.x DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web cannot open the file as a DocuWorks file. (5719)
  • In Netscape® 7.x, object tags cannot be used.
  • If you open and print a rotated DocuWorks file with Microsoft® Excel® 2000 on Microsoft® Windows® 2000/XP, Microsoft® Excel® 2000 will print the file with its character strings not rotated due to the restrictions of Microsoft® Excel® 2000. (5744)

  • In a web application which transmits a form data to display a DocuWorks document, when refreshing the browser after displaying a DocuWorks document, it is not displayed properly. (13990)

12-3. Printer Driver Settings
12-3-1. DocuWorks Viewer Light
  • For a DocuWorks document created from application data, be sure to set the print resolution of the file to that used in conversion. Otherwise, the print result of the DocuWorks file may differ from that of the application data. (623)
  • If DocuWorks files are printed with the ESC/Page Printer (manufactured by EPSON) on which [EMF] is set as the spool data format, the Windows® system may not be able to operate after printing is completed. In this case, set the spool data format to [RAW] or set to disable spooling. (1881)
  • Depending on the printer driver in use, DocuWorks files created from large bitmaps may not be printed correctly. For example, a PostScript® printer cannot correctly print DocuWorks files created from A2-3010dpi equivalent (4960 x 7015 dots) or A3-600dpi equivalent (7015 x 9921 dots) monochrome bitmaps. In this case, be sure to decrease the printer driver's resolution. (2182)
12-3-2. DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web
  • Microsoft® Internet Explorer® 6.0x/7, when printing a Web page which has a link (or an anchor) to any DocuWorks files, if [Print all linked documents] checked in the [Print] dialog box, DocuWorks files are not printed properly. (5074)
12-4. Memory and Performance
12-4-1. DocuWorks Viewer Light
  • When there is not sufficient memory, image of the DocuWorks file page may not appear and you will see an "X" in the page. To solve this problem, reduce the zoom ratio, or close other running applications and then restart DocuWorks Viewer Light. (21)
  • When you print a DocuWorks files created from complex data (pattern fill, gradation, heavy use of bitmap, etc.) to a PostScript® printer, the PostScript® data may become bigger in size. This may result in longer printing time of the original data or the print's capacity may be exceeded. (2030)
12-4-2. DocuWorks Viewer Light for Web
  • The number of DocuWorks files that can be displayed in embedded view in a page depends on the memory and disk space of the client machine. Therefore, be careful with the resources when viewing pages with many embedded DocuWorks files. (2290)
  • It may be failed to certify digital signature on a file with more than hundreds MB depending on the size of the memory region which your computer can allocate. (12535)

14. License Agreement
SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT
1. Grant of License
In accordance with the terms and conditions of this Software License Agreement ("the Agreement"), Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd.("Fuji Xerox") grants you ("Customer") a non-assignable, non-transferable and nonexclusive license to use the DocuWorks Viewer Light Version 6.2.5 English software which consists of program and related documentation ("the Software").
(a) Customer may use the Software on several computers.
(b) Customer may copy the Software for the purpose of use and distribution of the Software according to the Agreement.
(c) Customer may distribute the Software any other person or institute provided that any copy shall contain copyright, trademark and other intellectual property notices that appear on or in the Software.
2. Rights of Software
All intellectual properties including but not limited to copyrights of the Software are retained by Fuji Xerox and/or its suppliers.
3. No Warranty
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED ON "AS IS" BASIS. FUJI XEROX MAKES NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, AS TO MERCHANTABILITY, OR FITNESS FOR ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE. TO THE MAXUMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL FUJI XEROX BE LIABLE TO CUSTOMER FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL OR SPECIAL DAMAGES, INCLUDING ANY LOST PROFITS OR LOST SAVING, EVEN IF FUJI XEROX HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY CLAIM BY ANY THIRD PARTY.
4. Restrictions
Customer shall not do the following acts:
(a) Use or copy the Software except as expressly permitted herein;
(b) Modify, translate, reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Software;
(c) Rent or sublicense the Software to any third party;
(d) Delete or alter copyright, trademark and other intellectual property notices on or in the Software.
5. Termination
(1) License to use the Software will be automatically terminated in case that Customer fails to comply with any of the terms and conditions in this Agreement.
(2) Upon termination of license to use the Software, Customer shall immediately expunge or destroy the Software.
6. Other Provisions
(1) This agreement is governed by the laws of Japan.
(2) In case that Customer wishes to export the Software, Customer shall comply with the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Law of Japan, the Export Control regulations of the United States and any applicable law of area respectively. If necessary, Customer shall obtain the appropriate license for re-export from the authorities concerned.
(3) If any part of this Agreement is found void and unenforceable, it will not affect the validity of the Agreement, which shall remain valid and enforceable according to its terms.
15. Trademarks
All of the rights of intangible properties including copyright of this software (including manuals) and its backup belong to Fuji Xerox and its licenser.
