Based on Fuji Xerox 's popular DocuShare software, Fuji
Xerox 's index document management system (IDMS) for all types of government
administrative documents offers a far-reaching solution for governments
to seamlessly combine paper and electronic documents. Sales began on March
5.
IDMS is suitable for all types of administrative documents
from central to local government. While document management systems for
e-government already exist, until now there was no system capable of seamlessly
managing all documents within a single department or section. While previously
systems were individually tailored for specific purposes, (IDMS) is sold
as a packaged product so that it can be quickly installed, thereby achieving
greater cost performance.
The indexing system can manage data stored on all kinds
of media including CD ROMs and floppy disks. From the data, users can
simply organize listings of contents and store them in folders. The contents
are arranged so users can view the folder title and the documents inside
at an instant. Files can be easily updated, removed or transferred to
other folders. Users can also download files in DocuWorks or CSV file
format. The contents can be secured by setting access rights for various
documents or folders, thus reducing the burden of the Web administrator.
Storage of government documents as well as electronic documents
is outlined in the administrative law, Access to Information Held by Administrative
Organs, enacted in 1998.
