Highly evaluated for its effectiveness and cost performance,
Fuji Xerox's PC cluster system incorporating MD Engine II has been chosen
for use by the R&D task in Japan Science and Technology Corporation's
Institute for Bioinformatics Research and Development (BIRD).

As human genome research progresses, analysis of the protein
structure base is gaining greater attention. Computer MD (Molecular Dynamics)
simulation has been widely recognized as an effective means for carrying
out this analysis, however, the extended processing time and high cost
for the simulation had been a major drawback.

Fuji Xerox's MD Engine II launched in August 2001 is a high
performance accelerator board that was developed to speed up MD simulations.
It enables high-speed computations of non-bonded interactions, thus significantly
reducing the computing time for many MD simulation applications. The PC
cluster system incorporating MD Engine II adopted by BIRD is highly evaluated
for its fast yet accurate performance, and is expected to be effective
in further promoting its research.
