Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. and Fuji Xerox Printing Systems Co., Ltd., as well as 33 sales subsidiaries and 194 logistics agencies throughout Japan became the first in the office equipment industry to be designated by Japan's Ministry of the Environment as qualified industrial waste processors for recycling over a broad area. The aim of the company is to realize "zero-waste" of used office printers.
This qualification enables Fuji Xerox to collect and recycle its used printers from customer sites without the permission of the industrial waste processing industry on a nationwide scale. Starting from July 1, 2003, Fuji Xerox began collecting used printers from customers at a set cost, and through the utilization of a 100 percent recycling system, will work toward zero-waste of printers (excluding process loss).
Fuji Xerox and its domestic sales subsidiaries are achieving zero-waste of copy machines and multifunction machines by way of a nationwide collection network and through the utilization of this system. Until recently, however, customers had to dispose of their printers and bear the associated costs, pursuant to the Waste Disposal and Public Cleaning Law.
Based on the companywide product recycling policy aimed at zero-waste and the promotion of the reuse of resources, Fuji Xerox is striving to eliminate waste from all manufacturing sites as well as in products collected from customers. In conjunction with this endeavor, Fuji Xerox worked to obtain the designation from the Ministry of the Environment on March 24, 2003.
Once customers have contacted either Fuji Xerox or an affiliated company and the relevant contract has been concluded, a logistics agency will collect the used printers for recycling. If so desired, the company will notify the customer upon completion of the process.
