Fuji Xerox Document Handling Software
"DocuWorks" Achieves One Million Sales of Domestic Software

May 10, 2004

Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. has now sold one million licenses for its DocuWorks document handling software, which was launched in September 1998.

DocuWorks enables integrated information management, transcending differences in application and format to fuse paper and electronic documents. Used in conjunction with state-of-the-art digital multifunction devices, this software acts to raise both speed of communication and information quality, thereby enhancing intellectual activities. In addition to the domestic market, it is also sold overseas, in places such as Asia-Oceania (excluding Australia) and Canada. The Company intends to expand coverage on a global scale.

The following highly praised DocuWorks features contributed to the latest milestone:

1) Documents in different formats can be circulated via one file
The software handles files created in different applications and scanned paper documents as one file, overcoming barriers caused by formatting, which is an indispensable element in areas such as electronic payment requests over a network.

2) Enables near-paper images and high operability for personal users
Users can bundle, separate, append labels and annotate documents, irrespective of format, as easily as handling paper documents on a desk.

3) Numerous cases of providing industry solutions
A multitude of case examples regarding use with digital multifunction devices are provided so that users can easily find ways to resolve specific document-related issues.

4) Enhanced security
Besides a 128-bit password security feature, only designated users can access the document through an electronic seal impression or electronic signature function. It is also possible to add restrictions, such as prohibiting editing, annotation, printing or transcription.

Position in Document Service Business and Significance of Achievement
The term "document" includes a variety of forms, extending beyond mere paper and printed material to anything that records and transmits information, such as pictures and moving images. The mission of Fuji Xerox as The Document Company is to effectively manage these documents and provide customers with the optimum work environment for the creation of new "knowledge" and "value."
More than simply a network-driven document management tool, DocuWorks recognizes the essential nature of "electronic paper" and underpins the fundamental infrastructure of work in the office.
The feat of one million license sales demonstrates the immense popularity of the software and reinforces its place as a standard tool in the world of document management.
