Fuji Xerox Wins the
Energy Conservation Grand Prize

First in the industry to win six consecutive years
January 17, 2005

Fuji Xerox's document management system, which combines the DocuCentre Color a450 / f450 digital color multifunction device and CentreWare Flow Service digital document management/distribution control software, won the Energy Conservation Center Chairman Prize in the 15th Energy Conservation Grand Prize (energy conservation machines and systems category), by the Energy Conservation Center, for 2004.

It is a company first for Fuji Xerox to win the grand prize for a system including software. Also, it is the first in the industry for a company to win the prize for six consecutive years.

This system is a combination of a digital color multifunction device with high energy-saving performance and software that promotes the digitization of paper documents.

The power consumption of the digital color multifunction device is 139Wh/h Note1, a reduction of 52 percent over that of a conventional model, the DocuCentre Color 500.

Moreover, this system facilitates document management with its high-speed scanning function (black/white 50ppm, color 35ppm) for digitization and distribution of paper documents, and expands the range of document utilization. In addition, scanning documents for digitization requires far less power consumption compared to copying paper documents, therefore realizing a reduction of 15 percent Note2 of the 139 Wh/h Note1.

Consequently, by combining the energy saving of the color multifunction device and digitization of paper documents, the system achieves a reduction effect of approximately 60 percent Note2 compared to copying paper documents using a conventional machine.

Note 1: According to company statistics based on standard usage
Note 2: Typical usage sample: Calculating the reduction effect of computerizing 6000 copies/month

Fuji Xerox has won the Energy Conservation Grand Prize six times in a row to date: the digital full color copy machine DocuColor 1250 series in the year 1999, the digital full color printer DocuPrint C2220 in 2000, the high-speed digital multifunction copy machine DocuCentre 707 / 607 / 507 series in 2001, the office laser printer DocuPrint 181 / 211 in 2002 and the A3-capable desktop color laser printer, the DocuPrint C2425 / C2426 in 2003.

Energy Conservation Grand Prize

The purpose of the grand prix offered by the Energy Conservation Center is to seek out, identify and commend consumer energy apparatus, material, and appliances that excel in terms of energy- and resource-saving features, to support the development and promotion thereof, and ultimately, to support efforts to reduce the discharge of gases responsible for global warming, such as carbon dioxide, in order to make an energy-saving society a reality.

Subject apparatus and systems are selected from appliances, materials and system products (consuming energy) already commercially on sale or commercialized following sufficient research and development, purchasable by consumers or entrepreneurs and demonstrating exceptional energy-saving features. Also taken into account are features such as the degree of innovation, product quality, environmental improvement features and safety-consciousness.
