Fuji Xerox Establishes Executive Print
Innovation Center "epicenter" in Shanghai

Fourth epicenter in Asia-Pacific region
March 2, 2005

Fuji Xerox has opened a new "epicenter" (Executive Print Innovation Center) in Shanghai, which will provide highly professional services to innovate the digital printing business. The epicenter will replicate various production printing applications, serve as a new business model and act as a collaboration space with Fuji Xerox's business partners. The Shanghai epicenter, the fourth such hub following those in Sydney, Tokyo and Singapore, will provide previously unseen high-value-added services to customers in China and throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

In line with the evolution of technology, the sphere of digital printing is expanding rapidly. New technology enables on-demand printing, variable printing and customized printing, which were unattainable with conventional printing technology. As a result, there is increased demand for digital printing in a number of different industrial areas, including commercial printing, publishing, financial institutions, communications, insurance, manufacturing and government agencies.

To meet these needs, Fuji Xerox created four epicenters in the Asia-Pacific region. They are used as a space to solve customer issues related to the printing business. Distinct from other showrooms, they offer hands-on experience where customers can learn about industry-leading digital publishing technology, or experience best practice solutions in operation. The four epicenters as well as Xerox Corporation in the United States are linked via the Internet so as to share successful overseas cases and essential know-how to provide customers with the most up-to-date information possible.

Initial investment in the Shanghai epicenter, which occupies 2,380m2 of floor space, totaled nearly 30 million yuan (approximately 390 million yen). This is the first such large scale center in China with state-of-the-art equipment that gives customers the opportunity to enjoy and learn about digital printing. Today, there is increased demand for digital printing in China due to sharp growth in the paper-based printing and publishing industries. There are needs for know-how and examples of application at companies and printers and well as solutions that meets those needs. Fuji Xerox, which provides printing solutions across the board from low-end to high-end users, recognized China as a strategically important region because of these rising needs. The Shanghai epicenter has therefore been positioned as the information communication hub for the area. By doing so, not only will it promote education on the potential of digital printing, but also strengthen Fuji Xerox's place as leader in the field.
