Fuji Xerox Presents Windows® Vista
Compatible Software Prototype at PDC 2005

First time in the world to demonstrate input/output using new format XPS
September 13, 2005

At the Microsoft® Professional Developers Conference 2005 (PDC 2005) to be held at Los Angeles Convention Center, Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. announced that it will present Windows® Vista compatible software prototype using Fuji Xerox's color multifunction device.

Fuji Xerox has worked closely with Microsoft Corporation since the early development stage of the new Office System, to develop digital file format XPS (XML Paper Specification), which is a new function to be incorporated in the OS. At the Windows® Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC) held in Seattle, Oregon in April 2005, Bill Gates, chairman of Microsoft, demonstrated the XPS-compatible print management on stage during his keynote speech.

At PDC 2005, Fuji Xerox will reveal a broader function, such as scanning paper documents to create XPS documents, and security management functions using an IC card that links individual authentication and PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) signature. The demonstration will be held on September 13, 2005 (PDT).

This will be the first time in the world to demonstrate the XPS input and output function using an actual device-printing, scanning and management function, as well as data storage and security function-to present what Microsoft addresses in its document flow management proposal.

"The speed and quality of the Fuji Xerox prototype is very impressive," said Madelyn Bryant McIntire, Product Unit Manager for the Windows Digital Documents team, Microsoft. "Their implementation of the XPS in their workgroup-class multifunction peripherals demonstrates the feasibility of both XPS scanning and XPS printing based on the XPS specification. This has been a close collaboration between Microsoft and Fuji Xerox, and we look forward to seeing their official launch of XPS Document-based solutions."
