Fuji Xerox Launches "beat" Branch Service
for Secure Network OutsourcingSecure, simple, cost-effective centralized
management of
the network between main office and branches
September 29, 2005
| Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. has developed a new
Internet VPNNote 1 service called
"beat branch"Note 2 that
supports the centralized management of a network between the
main office and branch offices of small-sized enterprises
at a low cost. The service complements the Internet-driven
VPN multiple location connection service "beat/connect"
that incorporates Fuji Xerox's unique security technology,
which is provided under its secure network outsourcing "beat"
services for small- to medium-sized enterprises. Sales of
the new service begin on September 30, 2005. |

Note1
|
VPN : |
Virtual Private Network, that is, a network
and its technology that enable a widely utilized network to
be used as if it were a private line. |
| Note2 |
"beat" stands for Broadband Extensible
and Attractive Technology. |
| Network utilization is expanding at enterprises.
This has brought about the need to quickly revolutionize network
technology and infuse sophisticated security measures for
an optimum network environment conducive to secure communications.
Nonetheless, many small and medium-sized enterprises are reluctant
to make the investment required to do this due to the cost
involved. |
| "beat" was developed to support
the creation of an efficient network environment at a reasonable
cost. Fuji Xerox launched "beat" in October 2002
as a secure network outsourcing service for a monthly fee
from 18,800 yen. "beat" is installed in the organization
so customers can create, maintain and operate their own network
(including security measures), without the need for a full-time
systems manager. Thus, companies can realize a safe and highly
effective basic network environment that consumes far less
management time and cost. |
| Outline of "beat branch service" |
| "beat branch service" is a centrally
managed Internet VPN service for small-sized enterprises.
This service enables the central management of communications
and user information from remote locations. The remote locations
can utilize a variety of different services currently offered
such as the "beat/basic" security function for a
monthly fee from 13,800 yen. Further, the service comes equipped
with a QoSNote 3 feature to boost the communications quality
of the company's network, making it ideal for use with operational
systems. |
| With this service, the location that handles
the centralized management of the network is referred to as
the "branch hub"Note 4 and the remote offices as
"branches." All Internet communications from these
branches go through the branch hub, which also handles data
management. |

|
QoS : |
Quality of Service, that is, technology to
guarantee a specific communication speed at a particular bandwidth
over a network. The QoS feature of the "beat branch"
service provides optimum control by minimizing communication
delays and packet loss. |
| Note4 |
There is a monthly fee of 18,800 yen onward
for the "beat/basic" service at the branch hub. |
