Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. has developed an eco-friendly document-processing device (shredder) named Trust-Eco 1500. Sales begin on November 18.

Recently, many enterprises are paying greater attention to office document security primarily due to information leakage issues. With traditional cut-type shredders, most of the shredded paper is incinerated and therefore not recycled. By employing a unique "tear and crush" system, Trust-Eco 1500 not only maintains security in document processing but also enables paper recycling.

This new system, which succeeds the "tear and crush" system employed in ShrePress SP-2Note 1, reduces the tearing interval by 2mm from 20mm to 18mm, making it even more difficult to reconstruct the document or decipher its contents, and thus boosting security. At the same time, the paper fibers are not cut but rather left intact to facilitate easier recycling. Paper that used to be processed as burnable rubbish can now be effectively reused as a valuable resource.

Trust-Eco 1500 was designed for use alongside digital multifunctional devices and printers in the office. It can handle a set of 65 sheets Note 2 or 30 stapled sheets Note 3. While realizing continuous processing of 150 A4 long-edge sheets a minute, the machine operates at AC100V, thereby eliminating the need for any construction for setup. The use of a variable motor vastly reduces power consumption from 1,150W to 860W even when handling maximum loads. The noise emitted during operation has been decreased from 63db, as with conventional shredders, to 54.8db, which is the same level as a digital multifunctional device. In consideration of other digital equipment in the office such as PCs and multifunctional devices, Trust-Eco 1500 complies with VCCI Note 4 Class B limits related to electric wave interference. It also complies with the cutting standards and eco-related specifications of the Green Purchasing Law.

Note1
Developed by Fuji Xerox Engineering Co., Ltd., an affiliate of Fuji Xerox, and launched by Fuji Xerox Office Supply Co., Ltd. and Fuji Xerox in October 2000.
Note2 Calculated using A4 long-edge sheets measuring 67g/m2.
Note3 Maximum of 15 sheets with inside-stitch stapling.
Note4 Voluntary Control Council for Interference by Information Technology Equipment
