Fuji Xerox to Launch Partnership With Adobe Systems
in Electronic Document Server Solutions

Aims at expanding the electronic document solutions market

  Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. announced today that it would strengthen its partnership with Adobe Systems Incorporated from a strategic perspective, and expand its solutions business in broad areas including technology and marketing. As an initial step, Fuji Xerox will collaborate with Adobe Systems in the area of electronic document server solutions, starting mid-December 2005.  


Objectives

The two major objectives of the partnership, which starts in the Japanese market, are as follows:
1) Establish a highly secure, efficient electronic document management system
2) Provide timely systems development to major and mid-sized accounts as well as government and public offices
The partnership will cover both system collaboration and system proposal activities.


Background

<Fuji Xerox>
In Japan, the environment surrounding enterprises is rapidly changing with the enactment of the Personal Information Protection Law, the e-Document Law, changes in evaluation standards of auditing, and others. To cope with these changes, Fuji Xerox, with extensive know-how in document management services, is proposing the importance of document management related to internal controls.

<Adobe Systems>
Adobe® PDF is the standard digital document format worldwide. Adobe® Acrobat®, which creates and utilizes Adobe® PDFs, enables secure document control and management. Adobe Systems provides Adobe® Intelligent Document® Platform as a solution for efficient, reliable business document management in extend enterprise and government entities with Adobe® PDF technology. Adobe Systems is strengthening its sales channels as well as solutions proposals by cooperating with its strategic partners such as Fuji Xerox, to meet the users' needs and to expand its Adobe® Intelligent Document® Platform business.


About the collaborative system

As a first step, Fuji Xerox will provide a collaborative system based on Fuji Xerox's latest multifunction device ApeosPort series that works with Adobe Systems' Adobe® LiveCycleTM Policy Server as well as Adobe® LiveCycleTM Document Server, which will realize Adobe® LiveCycleTM Solution. Plans call for the system's launch in spring 2006.


Values provided by the collaborative system

With the collaborative system, users can scan and digitize paper documents using ApeosPort, and at the same time set access rights and domains using Adobe System's Policy Server management function. This will allow users to manage electronic document from its formation throughout its process in a consistent manner.
For example, users can freely attribute restrictions such as distribution, circulation or prints, to electronic documents, which are digitized according to the company's security policy on the user's digital multifunction device. This will enable users to manage the document's security, not only internally, but also externally even when the document is distributed outside of the company. This allows the users to strengthen risk management related to security, and to strengthen competitiveness, to expand its business along with the acceleration of electronic document distribution.


Market Potential

Through this partnership, the newly created electronic document related market in Japan is forecasted to be approximately 1.2 trillion yen in 2009.


Specific activities

Holding of seminars (Eight locations nationwide, prospect of around 20,000 participants)
Establish exhibition corner in Fuji Xerox's showrooms nationwide, starting with the Tokyo region.
Training conducted by Adobe Systems for Fuji Xerox sales reps


Future Plans

Fuji Xerox will assess and adopt Adobe® PDF technologies such as Adobe® Scan Library to provide document solutions around the PDF. The company plans to expand systems sales starting with the Japanese market to the Asia-Pacific market, while also strengthening its partnership with Adobe Systems to cover other product areas.
