Lights-Off at Billboards and Advertising Signs in
30 Locations
Nationwide Until September 30
Joins the Ministry of the Environment’s Campaign
“Black
Illumination” to Save 35,500kwh of Power Consumption
| TOKYO, June 15, 2006 – Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd., its domestic
affiliates and sales companies will turn off a total of 59 billboards and advertising
signs at 30 locations nationwide from 8 to 10pm on June 18 to participate in “Black
Illumination 2006” organized by the Ministry of the Environment, which is a
part of a five-day “CO2 Reduction / Lights Down Campaign” held from June
17 to June 21. The campaign aims at encouraging the public to turn off lights at
facilities such as Tokyo Tower, especially during the Black Illumination. |
| In a voluntary gesture, Fuji Xerox and its affiliates will switch
off their billboards / advertising signs from 8 to 9pm for total of 32 days – Saturdays,
Sundays and holidays – up until September 30. As for weekdays, the lights of
six advertisement signs will be turned off one hour earlier than regular hours. |
| These two measures will result in the reduction of around 35,500kWh
of electricity (25,000kWh saving by turning off the 59 billboards and advertising
signs and a 10,500kWh saving by shortening the lights-on period of the advertisement
signs on weekdays), which is equivalent to the power consumed by 10 households in
a year. |
| During the same timeframe, Fuji Xerox will also conduct the
following energy-conservation initiatives, as in 2005. |
- Set room temperature to 28℃ and encourage “Cool Biz” (no ties,
no jackets) among all employees
- Turn off lights at lunchtime (except rooms in use)
- Use the stairs when going to a nearby floor
- Turn off lights and OA equipment when not in use
- Encourage to stop idling engine when driving
- Encourage water conservation
