Sumisho Computer Systems and Fuji Xerox Conclude Basic
Agreement to Collaborate in Next-Generation Patent Information Retrieval System Business
Via Product Integration and Unified Brand
TOKYO, June 12, 2007 —Sumisho Computer Systems Corporation (SCS) and Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. announce the conclusion of a basic agreement on March 30,2007 to collaborate in the development of patent information retrieval systems. Under the agreement, the products of both companies that had been developed independently, SCS's “PATENT.NET” and Fuji Xerox's “DocuPat,” will be integrated and they will offer relevant services together.
This will enable the development of a product that fuses the technology and know-how of both companies, including the highly high-end rich Internet application (Curl), Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) and annotation management system of SCS, as well as contents that Fuji Xerox tailors for DocuPat. The new products will be marketed under a unified brand to the existing customers of each company as well as to new customers.
It is now extremely important for companies in the manufacturing industry to strengthen the value of their intellectual property avoiding patent infringements with other companies. Further, gathering patent information from other countries has become a pressing requirement in line with globalization of businesses.
Amid such a social context, SCS, which commands top share in the market for patent information retrieval systems, and Fuji Xerox, which provides services predominantly to major players in the manufacturing industry, have teamed up with the aim of delivering high-value-added information services.
The joint development of patent information retrieval systems will incorporate the cutting-edge rich Internet application, Curl, enabling a highly sophisticated and flexible user interface not susceptible to disparate customer environments. In their patent searches, users can utilize the contents, including Japanese patent publications, patent process information and U.S. patent information, which are tailored by Fuji Xerox for its DocuPat.
This next-generation patent information retrieval system will make use of an enhanced version of the Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) while storing additional customer information on respective local servers, which will be connected to a database at the data center so that the information is managed in a highly secure and confidential manner.
