FXICC Testing Laboratory Gets Certified
as a German Eco-Label Testing Laboratory

In-House Test Facilitates Application for Blue Angel Mark

TOKYO, August 27, 2007 – Fuji Xerox's FXICC (Fuji Xerox International Certification Center) Testing Laboratory, located at the Ebina Center (Ebina City, Kanagawa Prefecture), has acquired an accreditation as a testing laboratory for the Blue Angel Mark (BA). The BA is an eco-label operated and managed by the Germany Federal Environment Agency (UBA) and the RAL German Institute for Quality Assurance and Certification e. v. (RAL).

With the accreditation, Fuji Xerox can fairly and swiftly obtain test data in-house, on acoustic noise and chemical emissions of its products including copy/multifunction machines and printers, which is necessary for BA application. The accreditation enables Fuji Xerox to obtain the BA certification in under one-third the time it previously took.

As a manufacturer that supplies products not only to core sales and service areas of Japan and the Asia-Pacific region, but to the rest of the world, the FXICC Testing Laboratory obtained BELAC (Belgian Accreditation Structure; known as BELTEST - Belgian Organization for Accreditation and Conformity Assessment - at the time) certification as a testing laboratory, which is issued by the Belgian Ministry for Economic Affairs. As of April 2007, the FXICC Testing Laboratory is capable of evaluating all items of safety (EMC (ElectroMagnetic Compatibility), acoustic noise, radio frequency (for the short range devices), electrical and mechanical safety assessment and testing, laser safety testing, chemical emissions) required for electric/electronic devices, including digital color multifunction machines and printers. As the Belgian government has a mutual recognition agreement with the authorities of other countries (46 members in all), test results from the Center are valid with governments of key countries that Fuji Xerox ships products to.

The BA is a voluntary accreditation and eco-labelling system, which was introduced as the world's first ecological label in 1978 by a private-sector institution. It is granted to products and services that achieve a high level of qualifications in occupational health, safety and fitness for use. Customers have been increasingly demanding the acquisition of this eco-label, and products and services with the label can enhance reliability not only in Germany but also throughout Europe.

Fuji Xerox will strive to gain further accreditations and continue to raise the quality and safety of its products.
