TOKYO, May 16, 2008 – Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. and Fuji Xerox Interfield Co., Ltd. have developed eco-conscious resource-saving, lightweight and high-quality copy / printer paper for monochrome use called “SP”Note 1. Sales began on May 13, 2008.

While boasting roughly the same performance as the precedent product, “P”, 64g/m2, the standard, high-quality copy/printer paper for monochrome use, “SP” weighs at 60g/m2, reducing use of pulp by six percent, thereby conserving resources.

All material used for the paper is manufactured using eco-conscious pulpNote 2, mainly forestation wooden pulp including FSC-certified woodchipsNote 3. Fuji Xerox therefore supports customers who practice green procurement.

“SP” is roughly six percent lighter and eight percent thinnerNote 4 than “P”, so it contributes to various improvements in the office such as reduction of waste paper and less filing space.

In addition, the woodchips used for “SP” are carefully selected and blended to realize greater strength of the paper so that it does not hinder stable running of copy machines and printers. It can therefore be used in a wide variety of models, from low-speed to high-speed.

Fuji Xerox and Fuji Xerox Interfield will continue to provide paper for copy machines / printers that is environmentally sound and that can be used without anxiety.

Note 1 The “S” in “SP” represents the first letter in “Sustainable” and “Save”, and the “P” represents the first letter in “Paper” and “Pulp”
Note 2 Eco-conscious pulp include: (1) recycled paper pulp; (2) pulp from independent certified forests; (3) virgin pulp from managed plantations; and (4) reused and unused wood (such as construction scrap wood, leftover lumber, and lumber from tree thinning).
*”SP” does not use (1) recycled paper pulp.
Note 3 For more information, please refer to "What is FSC Certification?" below.
Note 4 The thickness of “SP” is 83mm. (Approx. eight percent thinner than “P”, which is 90mm)

What is FSC certification?

In the "forest certification system", an independent third-party organization evaluates and certifies that the forest management complies with certain standards. There are several third-party organizations that conduct forest certification. Of these, the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) currently conducts operations such as labeling (FSC Logo), targeting forests all around the world. FSC certification proves that the products made of wood from certified forests have never been mixed with those from non-certified forests at any point in time during the manufacturing, processing or distribution processes.

Forest certification consists of the following two items.
(1) Forest Management certification (FM certification)
(2) Chain of Custody certification (CoC certification), which refers to the path taken by raw materials from the forest to the consumer, including all successive stages of processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution.
*Fuji Xerox and Fuji Xerox Interfield attained theCoC certification in 2007.
