Fuji Xerox Launches DocuColor 5000 Digital Press
New Entry-Level Color Production System for The Professional Digital Printing Market
| TOKYO, January 22, 2007 – Targeting the graphic arts and in-plant print on-demand markets, Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. has introduced the DocuColor 5000 Digital Press full-color print system, which strengthens the professional digital printing lineup and reinforces Fuji Xerox’s position as the leader in the graphic arts market, including print houses. Sales begin on February 7, 2007. |
| The DocuColor 5000 Digital Press, which prints at 50 pages per minutes (ppm, A4 long-edge feed) in both monochrome and color at a resolution of 2,400 dpi, is positioned as an entry model of the DocuColor 8000 Digital Press (A4 long-edge feed, 80 ppm) family, which has acquired an outstanding reputation as an on-demand printer with brilliant print productivity and image quality as well as superb media versatility. DocuColor 5000 Digital Press adopts the same technology as the DocuColor 8000 Digital Press while achieving enhanced operability and outstanding cost performance. Also, the new model can output thicker paper stock such as booklet covers with a weight of 220g/m2 at the same speedNote 1. |
| For its image processing light source, the DocuColor 5000 Digital Press adopts the Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL), Fuji Xerox’s proprietary technology that is used in its printer manufacturing. The VCSEL is capable of emitting 32 beams simultaneously, which enables the machine to meet the dual goal of enhancing image density and increasing print speed. This helps produce high-image-quality at a resolution of 2,400 dpi. The integration of HQ digital screen MACSNote 2 technology, meanwhile, ensures improved reproduction of halftone areas and smoother gradation expression. |
| A new PC-based interface boosts user-friendliness by allowing users to set different profiles and adjust alignmentNote 3 with a keyboard and mouse. |
| Note 1: |
The integration of a unique technology that keeps the toner fixation temperature constant, thus enabling the high-print speed of 50 ppm with a wight of 60~220g/m2 paper. |
| Note 2: |
MACS (Micro Accurate Control Screen): As opposed to screen technology utilizing analog waveforms, this technology enables the entire print process to be conducted in digital. The technology eliminates the instability of the analog screen to realize smooth images at the laser writing stage. Besides providing natural screen drawing by controlling 2,400-dpi based pixels, gradation reproduction is outstanding. |
| Note 3: |
This technology ensures the image and paper are properly aligned by repositioning the paper when necessary. |
| Fuji Xerox conducts sales in the print market with the cooperation of FUJIFILM Corporation and FUJIFILM Graphic Systems Co., Ltd., a group sales company. DocuColor 5000 Digital Press will also be provided by FUJIFILM Graphic Systems Co., Ltd. |
