Fuji Xerox and Microsoft Collaborate in Document Management Solutions Field

Co-Develop Systems for “ApeosPort”, “Windows VistaTM” and “2007 Microsoft® Office System”

TOKYO, November 28, 2006 – Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. and Microsoft Japan Co., Ltd. will cooperate in the document solutions field in development and promotion of a system connecting “ApeosPort” multifunction devices with the new “Microsoft® Windows VistaTMNote 1” (hereinafter, “Windows VistaTM”) operating system and the integrated office application “2007 Microsoft® Office System” (hereinafter, “2007 Office System”). Sales of the System are projected to reach 36.0 billion yen annually in three years.

Leveraging the external service frameworkNote 2 of ApeosPort, which can digitize paper documents, it is possible to bolster the link between the Windows VistaTM digital information format XPSNote 3 and the Microsoft® Office SharePoint® Server 2007 enterprise contents management system, which handles the storage and management of digital information. Doing so enables the integrated management of information including paper documents and digital format at a common authentication level, in turn realizing the creation of a secure and efficient document management system.

Today, at many enterprises, in order to increase business efficiency and productivity, it is essential to create integrated systems that manage the entire information lifecycle, which includes analog data generated in offices, digital data produced on computers as well as the mission-critical systems that store this information. Further, in order to ensure compliance and risk management, information security including unauthorized access via a network, falsification of information in printing and data leakage even from paper documents are also needed.

In the first quarter of 2007, Fuji Xerox will develop a system that can manage information as it is converted from analog to digital file format XPS, and in the third quarter, it will develop an authentication security management system for both analog and digital data. While Microsoft® will provide training on Windows VistaTM and the 2007 Office System to sales representatives and system engineers from Fuji Xerox and its sales subsidiaries in Japan, as well as the promotion activities such as joint seminars.

Note 1: Compatible with the digital file format of Windows VistaTM known as XPS (XML Paper Specification) and the network function WSD (Web Services for Devices).
Note 2: Apeos iiX (Apeos Internet integration framework based on XML)
Note 3: Abbreviation of XML Paper Specification; a digital file format that enables the editing of pages defined based on XML.
